The Journey of Our Hemp T-Shirts: From Field to Fabric to You
Hemp is more than just a fabric—it’s a revolution in sustainable fashion. But how does it go from a simple plant to the premium T-shirt you wear? Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at our process, from sourcing to final shipment.
Sourcing the Best Hemp Fibers
Our journey begins in Heilongjiang, China, home to 70% of the world’s hemp production. This region has perfected hemp cultivation over thousands of years, producing some of the highest-quality fibers.
Why We Source Here:
- Pesticide-free & water-efficient farming
- Expertise in high-quality hemp textiles
- Ethical supply chain partnerships
We purchased the t-shirts from our Canadian supplier “Eco-Essentials” an Ontario, Canada business and a member of the Canadian Hemp Trade Alliance.
Processing & Turning Hemp Into Fabric
Once harvested, hemp stalks undergo a process called retting, where natural bacteria help break down the plant’s tough outer layers. The fibers are then:
- Dried & combed to separate long, durable fibers
- Spun into yarn for weaving
- Blended (optional) with organic cotton for softness
This stage ensures the fabric remains strong, 3x more durable than cotton, while maintaining its breathability and antibacterial properties.
Fabric Dyeing & Preparation
Before it becomes a T-shirt, our fabric undergoes an eco-friendly dyeing process. We use:
- Low-impact dyes that reduce water waste
- No harsh chemicals for a skin-friendly feel
- Water-efficient finishing techniques
This keeps our T-shirts vibrant, durable, and sustainable. We purchased the t-shirts from our Canadian supplier “Eco-Essentials” an Ontario, Canada business and a member of the Canadian Hemp Trade Alliance.
T-Shirt Production & Printing
Our Canadian supplier ships to our local partner facility in Canada, where:
- Our hand-printed designs are created using traditional silk-screening methods and personally crafted by the artist, Adan Ballou
- Uniquely Printed in Small Batches – Each design is produced in limited quantities, making every piece special and exclusive.
- Monograms visualizing both the brand and the idea, designed to be visualized as an iconic symbol.
- Pre-shrunk: Then, we wash the final printed tees and purposely dry the garment to ensure each shirt fits you without the worry of shrinking it.
Each piece is crafted as wearable art, not mass-produced fast fashion.
Why This Process Matters
- Our approach ensures that every hemp T-shirt you wear:
- Supports ethical, sustainable farming
- Is durable, breathable & antibacterial
- Is designed with art & purpose
- Made in Canada
Hemp is the future of fashion, and we’re making it accessible to everyone.
